Well it’s that time of year again for the IGFA Offshore World Championship which will run from the 13^th - 18^th May based out of Cabo San Lucas in beautiful Mexico. This year there are 53 competing teams from all around the world fishing and competing for one right, to be crowned world champions.

One of the competing teams from Australia which I am proud to be a part of which includes  team members Matthew Wallace, John Dwyer, Adam Moore, Ash Warland and myself Ross Martin will be competing in this years Championship for our chance to be crowned champions in this prestigous event. Our team won the invitation to compete  after our win in  last years Sunshine Coast Game Fishing Club’s Classic.

Game Fishing Hub is a proud sponsor of the Sunshine Coast Game Fishing Club and the 'Telstra Shop Kawana Waters  SCGFC Classic' being held this weekend from the 2nd - 5th Feb.

Held at the Kawana Waters Hotel, the 2012 Classic is shaping up to be another successful tournament from the SCGFC. The weather is looking great with a 10-15 knot forecast for the weekend. There will be a huge array of prizes for all categories and the tournament is light and heavy tackle.

This tournament is an 'IGFA Offshore Championship' qualifying event which enables the winning team to fish the event in Cabo, Mexico in 2013.

For those interested in fishing the tournament, the briefing will be held from 6:30pm this Thursday 2nd Feb at kawana Waters Hotel (Nicklin Way, Buddina) and entry forms will be accepted on the night. Membership of a QGFA or GFAA affiliated club is a must and membership will also be available on arrival.

Mark your fishing calendars for another exciting Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament (HIBT) scheduled for August 12-18, 2012 in Kona, Hawaii.

This prestige Tournament built on strict International Game Fish Association (IGFA) rules for world records, kicks off Sunday August 12 as teams register, draw for their tournament boats and participate in the HIBT parade through Historic Kailua Village. Then starting Monday, August 13 at 8am sharp, teams begin five days of tournament fishing. Last fishing day ends Friday, August 17 at exactly 4:30 pm. On Saturday August 18, teams, anglers, friends, captains and crew gather for the annual Crying Towel and Awards Dinner.

So far, International teams from Papua New Guinea, Japan, and the U.S. have registered for the 2012 HIBT. Be expecting a show of teams from New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, China, California, Florida, Hawaii and North Carolina.

With shark populations around the world continuing to spiral downward, the result of devastating commercial fishing techniques and an exotic taste for Oshark-fin soup, marine scientists such as Dr. Guy Harvey, are working around the clock to give these magnificent animals a fighting chance for survival.

In his latest mission, Dr. Harvey celebrated and award-winning marine wildlife artist into the epicenter of one of the nation¹s oldest and largest shark fishing tournaments in Ocean City, Maryland on June 15-19.

Thanks in part to Dr. Harvey's efforts and a willingness to continue to adapt by the tournament founders and organizers.
The Ocean City Shark Tournament's cash and prize package payment in the catch and release division has increased to over $15,000.00.

The Sunshine Coast Game Fishing Club is holding their No Frills Heavy Tackle Tournament again from the 13th to the 15th May. Start fishing is from 5pm on Friday the 13th and cease fishing is Sunday the 15th at 5pm. Vessels are not required to come home to their port or required to return to Kawana Waters Hotel for presentation, so you can camp out for a broad bill or a safe ancourage closer to the fishing grounds. Billfish only and open line class over 150m in water depth. Entry fee is $300 per boat with a cash pool prize with 60% 1st place, 20% 2nd place and 3rd place 10%.

The 12^th annual IGFA Offshore World Championship has attract over three hundred anglers and guests representing sixty teams from twenty five countries, teams have started arriving in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico having hopes of becoming the next IGFA Offshore World Champion.

The championship officially welcomes all anglers on the 7^th May at the Finistera Hotel Lobby, anglers check in the following day with the tournament committee and receive there welcome gifts and have there team photo taken as well as a run down through the tournament rules. The boat draw is followed to determine the boats they will be fishing on during the championship, anglers then will be treated to a live band, traditional Mexican dancers, dinner and the traditional tequila shot toast.

Teams will be fishing on the legendary Cabo’s charter fleet fishing for blue, black, stripped marlin, swordfish, sailfish, tuna, wahoo and dorado. All billfish in the championship are released and non offset circle hooks are only used with Momoi 30 pound line.

The championship presentation is held on the 13^th May at the Finistera, the winners will receive an incredible prize package including Vanmark Championship diamond rings, Reactor diamond championship watches, Geoffrey Smith championship bronze sculptures, Costa Del Mar sunglasses, Guy Harvey Artwork,  Hook & Tackle Championship apparel, Fin-Nor rod & reel combos and Momoi fishing line.  But most important off all is the wining team will be recognized as the IFA Offshore World Championship team for 2011 and receive a lifetime invitation to compete in future championship events.

The 2011 Bahamas Billfish Championship is only days away from the first of five tournaments. With a few fish starting to show up we can only hope that it's going to shape up to be a great series over the three months.

The Game Fishing Club Of South Australia is hosting their 2011 Port Lincoln Blue Water Classic. Registration deadline closes Monday the 18th April. Briefing night is Saturday 30th April at 6.30pm at the Port Lincoln Yacht Club with fishing from the 1st May till the 5th May.
